Cliff’s Wilderness Quiche

The Mad Chef checks on the progress of his creation…
Cliff’s Wilderness Quiche, ready to eat. Note the close shot below with the deer fly baked right in. (The gracious chef took that slice for himself – extra protein). Review? It was absolutely delicious – seasoned crust, flour, eggs, cheese, pepperoni and spices. Something you aren’t supposed to make in the back country.

Cliff on the Rocky Knoll

Our travelling companion, Cliff, on top of the Rocky Knoll that rose several hundred feet above out camp site along the John Muir Trail on our 2019 section hike from Red’s Meadow to Gladys Lake, Rosalie Lake, Shadow Lake, and then down to connect to the River Trail and back near Red’s Meadow at Agnew Meadow. From there, took the bus back to Mammoth Mountain Inn where our adventure had begun.

Pretty Hills

Pretty hills from a road trip about ten years ago. You know, sometimes I’m just taken with a “life blurb” – a tiny moment in which everything comes together in an atmospheric mood. It lasts for just an instant, and then is gone forever. I try to capture these when I can – no narrative, no greater meaning – just so I can re-immerse myself in the experience from time to time and share it so it is not mine alone. To me, the shared experience is everything – a hundred times more emotionally powerful than the solitary one (who wants to sit in a movie theater alone). So here you are – this capture in all its transient, insignificant, enveloping, glory – you and me together.

An Erratic Boulder Takes In The View

An Erratic Boulder Takes In The View – Taken on our 2019 section hike along the John Muir Trail

A lone erratic boulder surveys the panorama from where it was dropped by a glacier thousands of years ago. Pretty darn cool to stand there and take in the view with friend rock.

Where we hiked in 2019

Near Our Camp Site Along The John Muir Trail

Along our circular hike from Red’s Meadow through Devil’s Post Pile, Gladys Lake, Rosalie Lake, Shadow Lake, Agnew Meadow, then catching the bus through Red’s Meadow back to Mammoth Mountain Inn and then home.
