Phantasia<\/h2>\n

(Latin definition: imagination ; Greek: apparition)<\/em><\/p>\n

I saw a shadow in my house
\nAnd then it disappeared.
\nBut in that moment, manifest,
\nWas that which I most feared.<\/p>\n

For reaching deep within the folds
\nThat house my spectral mind,
\nThe shadow cast a ghastly light,
\nOn self-awareness, blind.<\/p>\n

And suddenly before myself,
\nI played the role I lived.
\nAs to this captive audience,
\nMy inner self was sieved.<\/p>\n

My real motivations now,
\nStepped forth to center stage:
\nThe false pretense of kind concern,
\nThe hidden selfish rage.<\/p>\n

This horrid confrontation play,
\nScorched blisters on my soul,
\nThe ashes are my true estate,
\nMy spirit dark as coal.<\/p>\n

And smothered by the smoldering,
\nA Phoenix without wings.
\nIt formed an embryonic id:
\nMost innocent of beings.<\/p>\n

Flightless, as it lays there writhing,
\nBeneath the angry sky,
\nYet through rejuvenation,
\nIt cannot hope to die.<\/p>\n

A miracle, a manacle,
\nA never-forming shape.
\nMy life behind; my life ahead
\nThe common noble ape.<\/p>\n

At risk of all eternity,
\nIn fear of none at all,
\nI saw the shadow reappear,
\nAnd heard its plaintiff call:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe choice is yours; the choice is ours
\nTo change or stay the same.\u201d
\nHearing now between its words,
\nI knew its Holy name.<\/p>\n

Familiar spirit, that was it,
\nA near and distant elf,
\nA sprite I seldom see full on:
\nMy inner shadow self.<\/p>\n

Our lives are long, our time is short,
\nThe end is always nigh.
\nMay you be blessed, as I was blessed,
\nTo live before you die.<\/p>\n
