{"id":3165,"date":"2018-02-27T11:49:35","date_gmt":"2018-02-27T19:49:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/storymind.com\/blog\/?p=3165"},"modified":"2018-03-01T09:51:08","modified_gmt":"2018-03-01T17:51:08","slug":"about-your-storys-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storymind.com\/blog\/about-your-storys-title\/","title":{"rendered":"About Your Story&#8217;s Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><em>By <a href=\"https:\/\/storymind.com\/blog\/melanie-anne-phillips-an-introduction\/\">Melanie Anne Phillips<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">What&#8217;s in a name?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Having at least a working title will help you start your story, even if you ultimately change the title.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The title of your story may or may not have dramatic significance.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In some cases, the meaning of the title may become apparent only during the course or even at the end of a story.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>There have even been stories in which the final understanding of the message is only achieved when the title becomes the last piece in the puzzle.<\/p>\n<p>Consider the value of these example titles such as <em><span class=\"s1\">The Verdict<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(which refers to the story&#8217;s climax), <em><span class=\"s1\">Alien<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(which refers to the subject matter), and <em><span class=\"s1\">The Silence of the Lambs<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(which refers to the Main Character&#8217;s personal problems).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Whether or not a title plays into the story itself, it will always frame the first impression it has on your readers or audience.\u00a0 To illustrate this, imagine all the other titles the original\u00a0<em><span class=\"s1\">Star Wars<\/span><\/em>\u00a0movie might have had.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In actuality, <em>Star Wars<\/em> was originally titled <em>The\u00a0<\/em><span class=\"s1\"><em>Adventures of the Starkiller,<\/em>\u00a0then <em>Episode One of the Star Wars<\/em><\/span>,\u00a0<em><span class=\"s1\">Adventures of Luke Starkiller<\/span><\/em>, and even\u00a0<em><span class=\"s1\">The Journal Of The Whills<\/span><\/em>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 Now, of course, it has been renamed Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.\u00a0 Clearly, y<\/span>ou can immediately feel the impact a change in title has on the reader\/audience first impression of your story.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Also from Melanie Anne Phillips&#8230;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"obi_random_banners_posts\" class=\"obi_random_banners_posts\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Man-Made-First-Hour-Event-ebook\/dp\/B09WYXMFBV\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/storymind.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Screenshot-2023-11-27-3.58.58-PM.png\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Melanie Anne Phillips What&#8217;s in a name?\u00a0 Having at least a working title will help you start your story, even if you ultimately change the title.
