Some time ago, I decided to write a poem based on sound Dramatica Theory of Narrative<\/a> concepts.\u00a0 Specifically, I wanted to cover all four throughlines<\/a> (I, You, We, and They) and have each follow a quad<\/a> (family of four) of plot points as an illustration of signpost\/journey four act\/three act\u00a0structure<\/a> seen from all four points of view.<\/p>\n

Here’s the result:<\/p>\n

“Lulladie”<\/h1>\n

My emotions are dead
\nand lack any resistance
\nto the onslaught of logic\u2019s
\nrelentless persistence.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m malleable, moveable,
\nflexible, still.
\nI succumb with aplomb,
\nas I alter my will<\/p>\n

to conform to the pressures
\nthat weigh on my soul
\nwithout motive, or method,
\nopinion, or goal.<\/p>\n

They reach for the stars,
\nas they stand on our hearts,
\nand they sell us off piecemeal,
\nparcels and parts.<\/p>\n

They slice us to mincemeat
\nand padlock the door,
\nwhile our blood runs quite freely
\nthrough holes in the floor.<\/p>\n

But nothing is wasted,
\ntho\u2019 everything\u2019s lost.
\nSo our blood is recycled
\nto offset the cost.<\/p>\n

We huddle in darkness
\nyet shy from the fire
\nto howl at the moon
\nwith the rest of the choir.<\/p>\n

And when the glow wanes,
\nwe stoke it with dreams
\nin hopes that the crackle
\nwill drown out our screams.<\/p>\n

You sleep in your bed
\nand you doze in your chair.
\nYour cushions are comfy
\nand so is your air.<\/p>\n

But your heartache grows heavy,
\nas well as your head,
\n\u2018til you nod away, nod away,
\nnod away, dead.<\/p>\n
