{"id":2160,"date":"2017-04-29T07:17:08","date_gmt":"2017-04-29T14:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/storymind.com\/blog\/?p=2160"},"modified":"2017-04-29T07:17:08","modified_gmt":"2017-04-29T14:17:08","slug":"an-argument-against-deadlines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/storymind.com\/blog\/an-argument-against-deadlines\/","title":{"rendered":"An Argument Against Deadlines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">By <a href=\"https:\/\/storymind.com\/blog\/melanie-anne-phillips-an-introduction\/\">Melanie Anne Phillips<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In story structure there is a dramatic element called the Story Limit. \u00a0It has two varieties: the time lock and the option lock. \u00a0Some stories come to a climax because they run out of time, others because they run out of options.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a time lock story, you are rushed. \u00a0In an option lock story you are pressured (because the undesired situation remains an irritant until you finally find a solution).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The same thing applies to writing. \u00a0If you have a deadline for a publisher, then you are writing with time lock. \u00a0But if you are creating for yourself, you are writing with an option lock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">And so, it really doesn\u2019t matter how big the ocean is, you have all the time in the world to paddle across it. \u00a0And, if you enjoy the process of writing, the more time it takes, the more you get to enjoy it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A little effort every day will get you there. \u00a0Even if there are days that don\u2019t produce much if anything, there are days that will produce a lot so that, in time, step by step, page by page, you will one day find yourself on the opposite shore with a finished novel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"obi_random_banners_posts\" class=\"obi_random_banners_posts\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Man-Made-First-Hour-Event-ebook\/dp\/B09WYXMFBV\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/storymind.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Screenshot-2023-11-27-3.58.58-PM.png\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Melanie Anne Phillips In story structure there is a dramatic element called the Story Limit. \u00a0It has two varieties: the time lock and the option lock. \u00a0Some stories come to a climax because they run out of time, others because they run out of options.
